The day before yesterday, I have implemented both Bidvertiser and Kontera in my site for monetization. It is my test on the viability of the Adsense alternative. I thought it is a good idea to have both of them on page so that there would be two streams of income at the same time. The rationale behind this sounds logical, right? When I surf the net, I have even found some bloggers or webmasters even have three or four ad networks for monetization on their sites and blogs. However, the basic question is "is it good to have more than one ad networks within a page"? Will these networks together generate more money and revenue for the webmaster?
I would say NO; at least it is true in my case. As I checked from the control panel of both bidvertiser and Kontera, the sum of revenue added together is less than that of Bidvertiser alone. In fact, I figured this out several months before, and this re-test reinforce the drawing of my conclusion. The reason is that when there are two ad networks, one of them must outperform the other because of different of payout per click.
In this case, Bidvertiser (my favorite contextual ad program) performs better than Kontera in-text ads, and has generated more revenue than Kontera. If I put both of them on the same page, chances are visitors may have chance to click Kontera ads and bring him/her out of my blog who otherwise may click Bidvertiser ads at the end. This provides an opportunity for visitor to make less money for me.
On the other hand, if you ad networks perform more or less the same and have similar payout, then this kind of problem would not exist.
